Grinding along

Well, I had hoped to have most of the Ground Floor complete by now, so that we could enjoy it through the winter months. I was a bit optimistic, and while the project is coming along nicely, some days it just seems to grind. The below wraps up the lengthy window and door jamb-extension/casing work.

Here is the bathroom door....

All of the doors have the same Mission-style, Arts & Craft header. The same style is on the inside of the bathroom door.

Using 3/4 inch clear pine makes for a very wide (deep) door and window jamb. I like it....

Drywall is not perfect. Pounding it to perfection in order to get the door casing to fit flush...

The final casing....all done

Next up will probably be the staining of the doors, and window jambs/casing. Not sure what the color will be though.

The next major step is to get the bar and bathroom cabinets. Today we visited a custom cabinet builder that we found, and set up exactly what we want, including some really neat woodwork / paneling for the bar wrap (the front of the bar). Again, its a simple design to follow the whole Mission / Arts & Crafts style. The cabinet builder will soon visit to spec out the design, and we hope to have the cabinets all installed before Xmas.

Since custom cabinets are far from cheap, we are going to save money by me making and installing a granite tile countertop. Granite tiles are cheap, and can be purchased in sizes up to 24" x 24", so that will work just fine.

Admittedly, I think some parts of this project may have to wait until the spring to be completed. For example, the bathroom. In Dec/Jan/Feb it gets single-digits here in Flyover country (but the sun shines every day) and the concrete floor will likely be much too cold to apply thinset to install the bathroom tiles. So that part of the project will likely have to wait until spring to be completed. It's stuff like this where I simply ran out of time, and good weather/temps, to complete this year.
