Bar Update

We had the cabinet maker visit today to take measurements for the bar cabinets and the bathroom vanity. He has some really nice, but simple, Mission/Craftsman style designs, and I think we are going to be really happy with what he is putting together. The key is the 'panelling' that he is making to go all around the front of the bar. We'll also have three corbels to support the countertop.

So here are some photos that I found (from the AVS forums) on the web that gave us the ideas:

Here is an example of basically the beverage fridge that we ordered (and the work area behind the bar is not much wider than the fridge itself - about 30" to work comfortably serving drinks (but not cook a roast).

Below is another picture of the same person's bar - the front area with panelling. We are doing something similar (but craftsman style and stained a tad lighter), with corbels to support the upper bar.

Here is another person's bar. Since the cabinets, panels, and beverage refridgerator cost a truckload of $ to capitalize, we'll be skimping on the countertop. Instead of spending the big $ on a custom granite or quartz counter, I am going to make it out of 24" x 24" granite tiles. It will still look really good and cost about 1/8th as much.

Delivery of the cabinets will be about three weeks. Until then, progress on the Ground Floor slows considerably. I might pre-stain some base molding and install, but I really don't want to stain the rest of the trim unless it is warm enough outside for me to open the door, vent the fumes, and not freeze while staining. That might all have to wait until spring, unfortunately.
